  • It can be argued that modern landscape photography originated in the Sierra Nevada. John Muir famously dubbed it the Range of Light because of its uniquely luminous qualities—its thin air, its sky, its rocks that glow in the sidelong sun at either end of the day. The light brought Ansel Adams, and kept him here throughout his career, not just in Yosemite but along the Eastern Sierra as well. Other acknowledged masters followed in his wake: Rowell, Clevenger, Wiltsie, Dittli, and others. Whether you're shooting with an iPhone or an 8 x 10 box camera, there are few better places on the planet to shoot pictures.
