Purple larkspur and lupine, white yarrow, red paintbrush, yellow monkey flower - in spring and early summer the meadows in and around Mammoth Lakes bust out with a full palette of High Sierra wildflowers. In June and early July the colors come alive, from Snowcreek Meadow to the fringes of the Valentine Eastern Sierra Reserve in Old Mammoth to the Heart Lake Trail. In late July and August, head for higher altitudes on the Emerald Lake/Sky Meadows Trail. Be aware and prepared: wildflowers teem especially where there's water - and so do mosquitoes!
