Twin Lakes

Destination adopted by: Drew Hild & Stacey Kwiatkowski - Highmark Advisors

  • At 8,600 feet, Twin Lakes - really a single lake with a narrow choke in the middle - is the lowest lake in the Lakes Basin and the only one accessible by car year-round. Nestled between Panorama Dome and the steep southern flank of Mammoth Mountain, Twin Lakes is a popular fishing destination and the source of Mammoth Creek. There is a busy campground here with campsites on both shores, a historic lodge and restaurant, an outdoor wedding chapel, a general store offering basic supplies, fishing tackle and boat rentals and, in winter only, a world-class fee-based cross-country ski center.

Avalanche Forecast for 11/27/2024

  • AVALANCHE FORECAST: Over the past five days, two storms brought periods of heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous avalanche conditions to the region. As the weather settles, avalanches breaking in new and wind-drifted snow will become less likely. Be prepared to assess the recent snow for signs of instability, like cracking underfoot, before venturing into avalanche terrain. We have very limited information about the snowpack at mid and upper elevations. If old snow has formed weak layers near the base of the snowpack, you can expect avalanche conditions to settle more slowly. Find out More
