Wildflower Viewing

Wildflower Viewing at Sky Meadows

Do you have Wildflower Viewing Experiences you'd like to share? Find out How!

  • The hike to Sky Meadows is one of the most popular and rewarding wildflower hikes in the Eastern Sierra. From the trailhead at the Coldwater day-use parking area, the trail climbs up along Coldwater Creek into the John Muir Wilderness. From July to September (with an average peak in August), look for a wide variety of species in the riparian habitat along the creek and on the shore of Emerald Lake. As you climb to the base of the Mammoth Crest, you'll find a bounty of pretty, low-growing alpine species. In early summer be sure to bring mosquito repellent; it's not just wildflowers that thrive in wet meadows!
