This is a family-friendly loop on groomed trails through Jeffrey pine forest and across open terrain with spectacular views of San Joaquin Ridge and Mammoth Mountain. For the best photo ops, time your trip for the magical hours of early morning or late afternoon. From the Shady Rest OSV staging area, follow the A trail north to the B trail. Follow this across the Mammoth Scenic Loop to the C trail. Turn right. Follow the C trail around the Inyo Craters, across Crater Flats, to the G trail. Turn right/south here and then right again when you come to the A trail. This will take you back to Shady Rest. Winter recreation maps are available at the Welcome Center and on the Inyo National Forest web site. Snowmobile riders are required to understand closure boundaries and stay out of closed areas.

Avalanche Forecast for 11/27/2024
- AVALANCHE FORECAST: Over the past five days, two storms brought periods of heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous avalanche conditions to the region. As the weather settles, avalanches breaking in new and wind-drifted snow will become less likely. Be prepared to assess the recent snow for signs of instability, like cracking underfoot, before venturing into avalanche terrain. We have very limited information about the snowpack at mid and upper elevations. If old snow has formed weak layers near the base of the snowpack, you can expect avalanche conditions to settle more slowly. Find out More
