Snowmobiling Shady Rest to Minaret Vista

Do you have Snowmobiling Experiences you'd like to share? Find out How!

  • The ride from Shady Rest to Minaret Vista is a classic introductory out-and-back ride on groomed trails with extraordinary views of the Ritter Range and the Ansel Adams Wilderness at the midpoint turnaround. From the Shady Rest OSV staging area, follow the A trail north to the B trail. Follow this across the Mammoth Scenic Loop to the C trail. Turn left. The C trail climbs through the forest past Mammoth Mountain's Main Lodge, which is a good stop for lunch or refreshments before continuing on to the vista. Experienced riders may want to continue to the top of the San Jouquin ridge. Return the way you came. Winter recreation maps are available at the Welcome Center and on the Inyo National Forest web site. Snowmobile riders are required to understand closure boundaries and stay out of closed areas.

Avalanche Forecast for 11/27/2024

  • AVALANCHE FORECAST: Over the past five days, two storms brought periods of heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous avalanche conditions to the region. As the weather settles, avalanches breaking in new and wind-drifted snow will become less likely. Be prepared to assess the recent snow for signs of instability, like cracking underfoot, before venturing into avalanche terrain. We have very limited information about the snowpack at mid and upper elevations. If old snow has formed weak layers near the base of the snowpack, you can expect avalanche conditions to settle more slowly. Find out More
