Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing on Panorama Dome

Do you have Snowshoeing Experiences you'd like to share? Find out How!

  • Snowshoeing to the top of Panorama Dome is a great family-friendly adventure with high scenic payoff from the summit and a fun descent.

Starting from the winter closure at the end of Lake Mary Road, walk up along the Lakes Basin Winter Public Access Corridor on the left-hand side of the road to the green trail system sign at the summer Panorama Dome Trailhead. Blaze your own trail or follow someone else's up and to the right through the beautiful mixed conifer forest to an enormous Western White pine below the open, windswept summit. Views from the top are—you guessed it—panoramic! Descend the way you came or run down the steeper north side.

Avalanche Forecast for 11/27/2024

  • AVALANCHE FORECAST: Over the past five days, two storms brought periods of heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous avalanche conditions to the region. As the weather settles, avalanches breaking in new and wind-drifted snow will become less likely. Be prepared to assess the recent snow for signs of instability, like cracking underfoot, before venturing into avalanche terrain. We have very limited information about the snowpack at mid and upper elevations. If old snow has formed weak layers near the base of the snowpack, you can expect avalanche conditions to settle more slowly. Find out More
