From the trailhead adjacent to the ranger kiosk at Minaret Summit, the trail to Starkweather Lake is a terrific downhill hike for families, offering grand views through the trees of the Minarets and the upper San Joaquin Valley below. During the summer season, meet the Reds Meadow Shuttle at Starkweather Lake to continue on to Devils Postpile or Reds Meadow, or to return to Minaret Vista (fee required) without having to hike back up the trail. Keep your eyes open for evidence of an old mine on the right-hand side of the trail on the way down, and look for a variety of wildflowers along the streams and meadows.
