Starting from the North Village at Mammoth, this ride begins with a gradual but sustained climb on the Lakes Basin Path to the scenic Mammoth Lakes Basin. From Lake Mary to the path's terminus at Horseshoe Lake the riding is generally flat and winding. Watch for hikers and other users. On the way back, turn right at Pokonobe Lodge for a counter-clockwise tour of Lake Mary, adding short out-and-back climbs to Lake George and Coldwater Campground. Beware of weekend car traffic around Lake Mary. Pause to enjoy interpretive signage and spectacular views. Stay on the road for the fast descent back to the Village.
