With easy access right from the edge of town, this trail provides a classic High Sierra backcountry experience into the John Muir Wilderness and the heart of the Sherwins Range. Stage at the Valentine Lakes trailhead off Sherwin Creek Road. From here, a well maintained but under-utilized trail climbs gradually and consistently through an ancient juniper grove, affording spectacular views over the town of Mammoth Lakes and out across the Long Valley Caldera. Make sure your horse is shod, the trail is rocky in spots.
