F Trail - Groomed Snowmobile Trail 2.6 mi

  • The F Trail, part of the Winter Grooming Snowmobile system for over-snow vehicle (OSV)/snowmobile use, is a heavily used OSV trail accessed from the C Trail at the Southern California Edison plant on Hwy 203 (between the Mammoth Scenic Loop and Main Lodge) that runs up to Minaret Vista. Groomed and marked with orange diamonds, the trail climbs west, parallel to the highway to pass behind Mammoth Mountain Inn. From here up the trail runs along the roadway and is very popular with cross-country skiers. Watch for downhill skier traffic and please respect all trail users. From the summit, the view of the Minarets and Ritter Range is one of the most iconic vistas in the American West. The Winter Grooming Snowmobile System is groomed by the U.S. Forest Service with funding provided by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, using monies generated by registration fees and gasoline taxes.

Avalanche Forecast for 11/27/2024

  • AVALANCHE FORECAST: Over the past five days, two storms brought periods of heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous avalanche conditions to the region. As the weather settles, avalanches breaking in new and wind-drifted snow will become less likely. Be prepared to assess the recent snow for signs of instability, like cracking underfoot, before venturing into avalanche terrain. We have very limited information about the snowpack at mid and upper elevations. If old snow has formed weak layers near the base of the snowpack, you can expect avalanche conditions to settle more slowly. Find out More
