The Fern Lake Trail is accessed via the overlapping Pacific Crest and John Muir trails from the Devils Postpile Trailhead in the Devils Postpile National Monument. The Fern Lake Trail climbs deep into the Ansel Adams Wilderness to Fern Lake, with an option to continue on from there to Anona Lake. A trail junction below Fern Lake leads north to the Beck Lakes Trail, with possible side trips to Ashley and Holcomb Lakes.
